T h e performance of t he D y n a m i c Packe t Reservat ion Multiple Access ( D P R M A ) , which was introduced in previous publications, i s investigated. In particular, we show here how t h e D P R M A scheme integrates three dif ferent t r a f i c types: voice, video, and data, through a single access control m e c h a n i s m tha t permi t s users t o specify their immed ia te bandwidth requirements. T h e p r i m a r y feature of t he D P R M A i s t he dynamic ma tch ing of t he traJgic source generat ion rates w i th t h e assigned fract i o n of t he channel capacity. T h i s i s accomplished by a multiple-threshold-driven control algorithm wi th hysteresis that regulates t h e actual a m o u n t of channel capacity assigned t o users . W e discuss h o w t h e multiple thresholds are selected for t he three t r a f i c types and demonstrate the improvemen t of t h e D P R M A m e c h a n i s m in increased throughput and reduced n u m b e r of collisions.

Guaranteed Quality-of-Service Wireless Medium Access by Packet-by-Packet Generalized Processor Shari - Communications, 1998. ICC 98. Conference Record.1998 IEEE International Conference on
To serve traffic with different characteristics and service requirements in multimedia wireless packet networks] we propose a multiaccess methodology PGPS/RAP with guaranteed quality-of-service (40s) to serve constant-bit-rate (CBR), variable-bit-rate (VBR), and available bit rate (ABR) traffic sources. This multiaccess methodology without any specific frame concept can guarantee worst-case del...
متن کاملARMAP - An Energy Conserving Protocol for Wireless Multimedia Communications
Adaptive Reservation Multiple Access Protocol (ARMAP) has been designed to provide explicit support for integrated services over wireless radio networks. It allows terminals to communicate with multiple traffic types, including data, voice, and digital video, providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees to video connections and a high priority to voice connections. The regularity in the video ...
متن کاملA New ARQ Protocol For Wireless ATM Networks - Communications, 1998. ICC 98. Conference Record.1998 IEEE International Conference on
This paper describes the design and performance of a new ARQ protocol for wireless ATM networks. The wireless channel is characterized by a higher and variable error rate in comparison with fiber-based networks for which ATM was designed. The purpose of the protocol is to provide a capability to dynamically support ATM-based communications in a fluctuating transmission environment by using sele...
متن کاملPerformance of space-division multiple-access (SDMA) with scheduling
Efficient exploitation of spatial diversity is fundamentally important to resource critical wireless applications [Tsoulos (1999)]. In this paper, we first study the performance of intelligent scheduling for space-division multiple-access (SDMA) wireless networks [Suard (1998), Farsakh (1998)]. Based on the existing scheme, we propose a new medium access protocol (MAC) for multimedia SDMA/time-...
متن کاملAn adaptive bandwidth reservation scheme for high-speed multimedia wireless networks
In the next generation, high-speed wireless networks, it is important to provide quality-of-service (QOS) guarantees as they are expected to support multimedia applications. This paper proposes an admission control scheme based on adaptive bandwidth reservation to provide QOS guarantees for multimedia traffic carried in high-speed wireless cellular networks. The proposed scheme allocates bandwi...
